Annual Honors Program Essay Contest

In the summer before the start of the 2017-2018 academic year,

all incoming Honors Program freshmen were invited to participate in the Honors Program's annual Essay Contest.    Students were required to read I Am Malala, by Malala Yousafzai.

Students were invited to submit essays based on the following prompt:

  • Malala Yousafzai said, 'I raise up my voice — not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard.' For whom have you raised your voice? If you have not, how would you rise up and for whom would you speak out?

The 2017 winning essay was submitted by Jade Ryerson, a Political Science major from Bridgeview, IL.   Results of the essay contest were announced at the Honors Retreat on Tuesday, September 5th, 2017.   Jade's essay will be featured in the fall quarter issue of Honorable Mentions.  Jade is also featured in the “Student Spotlight” section of the Honors web page, and received a Barnes & Noble gift card.
