Annual Honors Program Essay Contest
During the summer months leading up to the start of the 2016-2017 academic year, all incoming Honors Program freshmen were invited to participate in the Honors Program's annual Essay Contest. Students were required to read Dead Man Walking, by Sister Helen Prejean.
Students were invited to submit essays based on the following prompt:
- How has the experience of reading Dead Man Walking
influenced your views of the American legal system and your current
understanding of ‘What must be done?’
The 2016 winning essay was submitted by Sydney Begerowski, a Management major from New Baltimore, MI. Results of the essay contest were announced at the Honors Retreat on Tuesday, September 6th, 2016. Sydney's essay will be featured in the fall quarter issue of Honorable Mentions. Sydney is also featured in the “Student Spotlight” section of the Honors web page, and received a Barnes & Noble gift card.
